Brian Chubb Piper’s Lagoon

Today’s piece of the day is for a client who has asked me to upload an image of this work for the benefit of his wife who works outside of the downtown core while he works the next block over.

This work is by Brian Chubb.

Brian Chubb is an artist who was born and raised in Alberta and spent much of his early art career there as well, but now lives in BC. Consistently he has produced strong landscape-based paintings that are loose and painterly. He has been included in some interesting shows including an early solo show at the Edmonton Art Gallery (now the Art Gallery of Alberta) the end of the 1970s. He also exhibited with some very good commercial galleries during his career. He was quite active in the 1970s and 1980s. It is probably from this period where most of his production was made.

Having said that, he has still produced work for the remainder of his career. It seems as if he kept a lower profile during the late 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s. I suspect it probably had something to do with life getting in the way of being able to produce work. It happens to the best of us.

However it is interesting to note, that he is once again more active during the past 10 years or so. From the images I have seen, his current work appears to be strong, just like his early work. I am looking forward to seeing some of the current work in person.

This is an undated early work of Piper’s Lagoon.

Piper’s Lagoon is a natural preserve near Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. It is a great place to go beachcombing or bird watching.
